A’yen is the Interactive Project Coordinator for Local Projects, a media design firm for museums and public spaces. She is also an artist and story collector. Prior to joining Local Projects, she managed large-scale art and media projects for non-profits and artists, often in the interactive space. She managed logistics and external relations for Artist Swoon’s ‘Swimming Cities’ nautical art projects with Deitch Studios. A’yen served as Online Director for non-profit organization Seeds of Peace before joining Swoon. A’yen helped found art collective The Miss Rockaway Armada with whom she has installed artwork in the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and floated 800 miles of the Mississippi River recording oral histories aboard homemade eco-art rafts and a solar-powered story-boat. The Miss Rockaway and Swimming Cities projects have been featured in the New York Times, New York Magazine, TimeOut, the Boston Globe and many other publications. She has spoken at PS1, MASSMoCA and the Conflux Festival, and is collaborating with Swoon in 2009 to float to the Venice Biennale on the Swimming Cities of Serenissima. A’yen holds a BA from Columbia University. Check out her work here. From time to time, she blogs, takes pictures and makes interactive installation art. A portfolio of her creative projects is here: thebirdinmyheart.com.
